About 2 months ago I was asked to paint the next cover for P.M. History, a german pop-scientific magazine, which I've used to read as a kid and I remember well how much I was inspired by all the stories. To an extend that I can say it definitely influenced my interests and ultimately my career path, so I was very excited to contribute to this little piece of my own history as well.
The topic was "Battle of the Teutoburg Forest" and even though I expected to paint a classic battle scene, they wanted more of a movie poster feeling to it and most of what makes the composition was in the briefing, so I really just had freedom in the rendering, colors, etc. Quite tough to get all the information in there, including the arms, which were mandatory, but I'm quite satisfied with this painting. Even though I usually like it rough, sketchy. Hope you enjoy as well!
